Kit, index sprocket, extra length shellplate bolt, thumbscrews for 3 powder measures and 3 powder measure
adjustment knobs. The bearing kit provides smooth indexing with tighter
tolerances
. Tactile feel for priming is enhanced and more
consistent priming is achieved. Thumbscrews replace screws and bolts to speed
up the adjustment of the press. This configuration works with both new and old
style powder measures.
We spent some time looking at reviews and reading the forums to find out what we could do to improve this kit. A show stopping problem has been how thin the webbing is between the sprocket fingers. This make the sprockets fragile and fingers break off, but not our sprockets. We have more metal than any other product on the market. Our sprocket is the strongest available for use with a bearing!
We read that once the bearing kit is installed it lifted up the shellplate bolt enough that the set screw on the left side of the ram contacted the threads instead of the shoulder of the bolt. So we started making the extra length shellplate bolt included with this kit. All of the 550 kits we sell on eBay include the extra length bolt
. We found that almost everyone who ordered a kit without one ended up getting one from us. Don’t forget to loosen the grub screw on the left side of the ram before removing the bolt, then tighten it back up after reinstalling. By including the extra length bolt it will save you time, money, and frustration.

Next, we found that the 550 presses simply eat non-
metallic
detent balls. So we stopped including these with our kits.
The 550 relies on the detent ball to position the casings properly. The best solution is using the steel ball supplied with the press.

This kit does not require re-adjustment of dies.
Minor fitting of provided nylon washers is required. Please watch this short video for fitting the washers.

If you have a 450 this kit will work, except the extra length bolt is probably too long and won’t be used with your press.
